Vintage Preset Pack
In April right after my Korea trip I travelled to Heidelberg to visit a couple of friends back from my time at university. While shooting some portraits with a friend of mine (might share them soon as well), I also helped another friend with his men’s accessory brand. They are releasing a new bag soon. So we walked across the city for a couple of hours shooting a model with the new item.
I also provided my friend with all the Lightroom presets I specifically made for the shoot and since I don’t want to financially profit from that gig (for various reasons), I figured I could still get something good out of that shoot for me as well. So I decided to sell all six presets with 100% of the proceeds going to the german charity Viva con Agua (Read more about them here), which pledges to give people access to clean drinking water across the world!
Furthermore, I don’t want to set a certain price on the presets so the entire product is Pay what you want! With no starting price you can also download everything without spending a dime, so if you like free stuff here ya go!
Now onto the presets. I tried to have all six presets give off vintage vibes, while also having a distinct look for each of them. I’ll go more into detail on each of them here as well in a bit, but first I want to stress that the files work for Lightroom Classic (on desktop) and the product contains six .xmp files and a description on how to install the presets. Now let’s get started with the presets.
Vintage as fuck

First of all! Don’t mind the names. They are mostly just inside jokes with my friend, but also give some more info on what to expect from each preset.
So as this title already gives the subtle clue, this is the most vintage one out of the whole set. Isolating the subject with desaturated, deep colors. It also doesn’t have much contrast (something you will see in the other presets as well), but it still creates some separation of the subject through saturation.
My goal with this one is to create a certain moody style and look without going too crazy with the colors (I left that to the other presets).
Warm Tones

Here we go with the colors. As the name might give away I made this preset for scenarios in which I wanted to “warm up” the whole image. Mostly by adding oranges and reds in the shadows and midtones and removing some of the greens.
To create a little color contrast I added a little blue to the highlights, which balances out parts of the image like the shirt of the model as well as the sky.
This look goes really light on the contrast front, so if you want something with a little bit more contrast then check out the next one!
Warm Tones + Contrast

Well I think the name speaks for itself. This preset is basically using the warm tones preset as a base and just adds a little bit more contrast. Pushing down the blacks a little bit harder to create more of a cinematic look.
On this example you can also see how the greens are removed/desaturated to create a warmer look.
Shrek is love, Shrek is life

Again, don’t mind the names. Especially this one.
(Feel free to rename them as you wish. Just thought it was kinda fun to keep the original names and not give them pretentious ominous names like most other preset packs).
So as the title obviously states, this presets leans more towards the green side, while also being really muted in the highlights compared to other presets.
Out of all the presets, this is probably the moodiest one with not much contrast and subtle changes in color.
Basic Bitch

I think the name says it all for this one. Tried to go as simple as possible so that my friend would have something that works in every situation.
It has a slight shift towards the red just to add a little bit more color without going too crazy into color manipulation.
Muted

This is probably my favorite one. Just to be clear, it doesn’t work at all times (something that goes for almost all presets out there), but in the right scenarios it looks pretty amazing and unique.
I called it muted since it also flattens the highlights a little bit to create the moody/vintage look. Several colors are also desaturated and adjusted for this one to make it really recognizable (works best with a lot of reds in the image).
I want to give a little bit more info on these specific presets and presets in general. First of all there is not one preset that works great on all images. All have their strengths and weaknesses and look best in certain situations. With this pack I just want to give some orientation and a starting point for you.
I’d also suggest to play a little bit with adding grain as that furthers the vintage effect (Only reason there is no grain yet on these presets is cause my friend didn’t want it for his product shots). Lastly, I want to leave you with a side by side comparison of all presets on the same picture.
I hope you like the presets and my intention behind releasing them “for free” with giving the option to do something good for the world. Looking forward to seeing what you guys do with them!
